Yesterday, excited reports of Netflix finally coming to Android phones began to flood the web, after Netflix purportedly put out a blog admitting as much.
According to Bloomberg, The Droid Guy and others, the official Netflix blog announced it would finally be bringing its coveted service to Qualcomm Snapdragon powered phones like the Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Evo, HTC Incredible, and the HTC G2.
Today, that blog is no longer available, and several people we know who downloaded the apk have not been able to use it on the aforementioned phones, so we’re at a bit of a loss as to what is going on. Indeed, even the blog post referred to by Bloomberg has now mysteriously disappeared.
The list of Android devices that work with Netflix is still up on Netflix’s main movie site, however, so perhaps the confusion can all be put down to a temporary glitch.
Unplugged had reported several months back that Netflix would be making its debut on Qualcomm processors owing to their supposedly higher level of on-chip encryption and security.
Android users have certainly been pushing for the service – long available on iDevices – for a long time.
