Canadian firm RIM has been getting a bit of a battering over the lack of app content for its tablet – the BlackBerry PlayBook – of late, but that’s not the only issue the Canadian company is facing, with the recall of some 900 devices for a mystery fault.
The PlayBooks affected seem to be limited to 16GB models shipped to the big box retailer Staples.
“About 900 units of the BlackBerry PlayBook have been determined to be faulty,” reads the recall notice, published over at Engadget.
The document then goes on to list the serial numbers of all 900 devices being recalled. If you’re worried yours might be one of the PlayBooks being recalled, you can check whether your tablet matches the number of any on the list.
**UPDATE:**
RCR Wireless recently received the following statement from RIM:
“RIM determined that approximately one thousand BlackBerry PlayBook tablets (16 GB) were shipped with an OS build that may result in the devices being unable to properly load software upon initial set-up.
The majority of the affected devices are still in the distribution channel and haven’t reached customers. RIM is working to replace the affected devices.
In the small number of cases where a customer received a PlayBook that is unable to properly load software upon initial set-up, they can contact RIM for assistance.”
