Apple tops and Dell drops in top brand value list

Apple was crowned king of brand values with the top slot as Round Rock-based Dell Inc. plummeted from the 2011 list this year.

Tech companies and telecoms did well on the new ranking of brand values by global agency Millward Brown Inc. Apple climbed a whopping 84% to hit No. 1 at a value of $153.3 billion, besting Google Inc.’s No. 2 value of $111.5 billion. IBM was No. 3 with a brand value of $100.9 billion.

McDonald’s Corp. landed at No. 4 with $81 billion in brand value and Microsoft Corp. came in at $78.2 billion to finish fifth.

Dell lost 23% of its estimated brand value between 2010 and 2011, falling from No. 66 last year at $11.9 billion to not making the top 100 this year.

Facebook, which has operated a large satellite office in Austin since last year, hit the list for the first time at a brand value of around $19.1 billion. The social networking kingpin was the fastest to rise this year, shooting up 246%.

Seven telecom-related companies cracked the top 25 most valuable global brands in 2011 including AT&T Inc. at No. 7 with a value of $69.9 billion, China Mobile at No. 9 at $57.3 billion, Vodafone at No. 12 with $43.6 billion, Verizon at No. 13 with $42.8 billion, Deutsche Telekom at No. 19 with $29.7 billion,  Movistar at No. 21 with $27.2 billion, and BlackBerry at No. 25 with $24.6 billion.
