Humana taps mobileStorm for secure health data messaging platform

Los Angeles-based mobileStorm Inc. has landed a deal with Humana Inc. to test a new mobile messaging platform tailored for the healthcare industry. The mobileStorm for Healthcare system will enable healthcare professionals and patients to transmit and receive protected health information via mobile devices.
The HIPAA-compliant platform can be put to use by any developer or IT department through the mobileStorm for Healthcare API (application programming interface). The system, which allows secure communications between a range of standardized healthcare management tools, also enables customized push notifications and text messages. Humana has signed on for the official launch as a beta customer.
One of the key features of the API and the SDK (software development kit) is the automated delivery and management of AppMail messages with AES-256 encryption. AppMail can deliver health notifications in a one-to-one or one-to-many fashion and give customers insight into who has read a message and for how long.
Humana, which operates more than 300 medical centers and 260 facilities, has signed on for the official launch of mobileStorm for Healthcare as a beta customer.
“Humana is excited about the messaging capabilities that the secure mobile messaging center will bring us. This partnership will allow us to deliver on multi-channel goals where we have not had a solution in the past,” Christopher Nicholson, Humana’s director of strategic communications, said in a prepared statement. “The ability to reach members ‘where they are’ with relevant, personalized and proactive communications is critically important.”
Jared Reitzin, founder & CEO of mobileStorm, added: “We have been providing communication solutions for over 11 years and in the healthcare vertical for the last three years. We firmly believe that m-health technology represents the most important social, cultural, and business impact that mobile technology has produced to date.”
