China Unicom audit finds 'improper measures and practices'

China Unicom Ltd. (CHU), the country’s second largest wireless operator, acknowledged that for its 2009 fiscal year it has found “improper measures and practices” related to “party transactions, procurement procedures, operational management and accounting procedures.”
The telecommunications provider said the issues were found through an audit of China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd., the controlling stakeholder in China Unicom, and was just after China Unicom was merged into China United Network.
Following the audit, China Unicom and China United Network said they have implemented a number of measures to its reporting process and that the changes will not have a material impact on its past financial results.
China Unicom reported last week that it added nearly 2.5 million customers in April, including 659,000 net additions for its 2G service and more than 1.8 million net additions to its 3G offering. The carrier ended the month with more than 156.6 million total customers on its network.
