Uruguay decides to allocate 700 MHz for mobile broadband services

The Uruguayan government said it will make the 698-806 MHz band available for mobile broadband services. The decision affects cable companies, such as Cablevision and Multiseñal. Countryside cable TV operators will be only be allowed to use 10 channels under the decision.
Citing international agreements, the decree notes that cable operators should strive to implement, as soon as possible, technical advances that limit the amount of spectrum used to the minimum necessary to free up the rest of the spectrum.
Operator Cablevision will have a year-and-a-half, beginning July 1, to release frequencies.
