Movistar Ecuador invests US$ 20 million to launch HSPA+

Telefónica Movistar has invested US$ 20 million to launch HSPA+ technology and begin to offer 4G services in Guayaquil, the largest and the most populous city in Ecuador. The mobile network will be the most advanced in the country. With HSPA +, Movistar’s customers will be able to experience data connectivity at speeds up to 10 megabits per second (Mbps) for downloading files and up to 2 megabits per second for uploads.

According to the telecommunications company, the HSPA+ launch will soon begin in other cities. “Telefonica Movistar is committed to the technological development of Guayaquil, and the country. The launch of HSPA+ is a sign of our constant innovation and evolution, since in the last 4 years has made significant technological leaps renewing our network, first with the implementation of 3G and now sailing to HSPA+ 4G speeds,” Telefónica said in its press release.

Movistar has drawn up plans and special promotions for 4G. For US$ 50, the operator offers its Premium Internet 4G BAM plan, which includes a free modem during lauch period and and customers will receive 3500 MB navigation. Another plan is called Smart Plan 105 4G, and includes US$ 50 for talk, 500 SMS Movistar, 3500 MB navigation, and customers can buy a new Galaxy S II for US$ 199 plus taxes.
