Mobile News Weekly: LightSquared explains GPS coexistance, mobile money and more

RCR Wireless News rounds up the week’s latest news, including a report in the Shanghai Daily that says China Mobile will get the Apple Inc. iPhone sometime this fall. Meanwhile, China search engine giant Baidu reached a licensing agreement with three U.S. music companies for music downloads.
Mobile money in both developed and developing countries is gaining traction, and wireless companies are pushing into the space, noting that there are more than 1.7 billion people who own phones but do not own bank accounts. The battle between banks and mobile operators is more hype than reality, according to people interviewed for this segment.
Finally, LightSquared’s Geoff Stearn, VP of spectrum management, explains how LightSquared can coexist with GPS devices in what he calls an expensive solution that would allow legacy GPS devices to continue to function without interference.
