The growth of smartphones is indeed an international phenomenon as highlighted by Japan’s largest carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc. (DCM) reporting a surge in net profits it attributed to the device segment.
NTT DoCoMo said that profits jumped nearly 12% year-over-year during its first fiscal quarter to just over $2 billion. The increase came despite a dip in wireless revenues from $14.1 billion during the first quarter of 2010 to $13.6 billion this year.
The carrier said it expects to post $54.8 billion in revenues for the year, with net profits of $6.5 billion.
