Ericsson | August 1, 2011 | Press Release
To further its goal of delivering state-of-the-art telecom services, du announced its Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) deal with Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC). The deal will further du’s efforts to enhance the overall customer experience for its subscribers.
Hatem Bamatraf, Senior Vice President Network Development, du, said: “We firmly believe that dynamic partnerships lead to success. The tie-up with Ericsson for GPON complements our state-of-the-art Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network, which we were the first to deploy in the UAE.
“This new solution will allow us to offer innovations, like fastest broadband (real broadband) and du TV to our customers. Ericsson’s GPON solution was one of the best solutions for us, and we hope that our partnership will further enhance our customers’ user experience.,” said Bamatraf.
With this solution, du can meet existing customers’ demands for advanced broadband services and transform its network into a ready-to-use platform for a new era of communications. Ericsson’s Deep Fiber Access solution consists of Ericsson’s EDA 1500 GPON solution, passive optical components, system integration and related services.
In the coming years, du can implement new business models in which deployment and operations costs are split among different entities.
Ray Hassan, President and Head of Ericsson Gulf Council Countries (GCC), says: “Today’s consumers are demanding more and better multimedia services, and this trend will only grow as broadband penetrates deeper into the UAE, a region already widely recognized as driving the fiber revolution.”
The world’s leading operators have selected Ericsson’s innovative Deep Fiber Access, deploying the GPON, P2P, WDM PON and DSL solutions in more than 150 FTTX and 110 copper-based networks around the globe. Ericsson is positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant of the Gartner 2010 Magic Quadrant for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). [1]
