Brazilian Minister of Communication Paulo Bernardo said Brazil will have a pilot high-speed broadband project by the Rio+20 Conference — a United Nations’ Conference on Sustainable Development, held June 4-6 in Rio de Janeiro.
Bernardo made his comments during a visit to Colombia where he participated in the Brazil-Colombia Investment Forum, sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
In a recent interview with RCR Wireless News, executive secretary for Ministry of Communications Cezar Alvarez has also declared Ministry of Communication (MiniCom) would like to have 4G terminals by 2012 to Rio+20. “It would be a way for carriers and suppliers demonstrate their fourth-generation networks. It wouldn’t be necessary a huge spectrum band for that,” said Alvarez about LTE.
To launch 4G, the telecom sector is expecting to bid for frequencies at 2.5 GHz, what could happen in the first half 2012. However, this frequency band is occupied by MMDS providers, such as Net and Sky.
