Department of Defense, other agencies able to upgrade voice networks to all-IP
Nokia Siemens Networks’ technology for all-IP based voice, video and data communications has been accorded ‘Approved Products List’ (APL) status* by the U.S. government’s Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). The certification, awarded in May 2011, allows the Department of Defense (DoD) and other government agencies to purchase the company’s Military Next Generation (Mil NGN) solution**.
Concurrent with APL status, the DoD has awarded Nokia Siemens Networks contracts to install three Mil NGN systems at locations in Germany, South Korea and Japan.
“The organizations that have become part of Nokia Siemens Networks since its formation have a multi-decade history of supporting the U.S. government with highly effective solutions to address their administrative telecommunications needs around the world,” said Bob Fennelly, head of the U.S. government customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “The award of these contracts and the official APL listing are testimony to our solution’s capabilities, and they strengthen our credibility as an approved communications solutions provider to the DoD and other U.S. government agencies.”
The Nokia Siemens Networks Mil NGN solution, developed in close cooperation with the DoD and U.S. military branches, provides the specialized network capabilities required by the DoD for voice-over-IP (VoIP) and unified communications. It also enables a smooth, reliable and cost-effective migration from legacy circuit-switched voice infrastructure to a full everything-over-IP (EoIP) environment.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ Mil NGN solution offers the best voice quality, highest scalability, more configuration and redundancy options such as geo-redundancy for highest survivability, and significantly lowers power consumption. The solution provides superior value for U.S. government and other customers needing the most reliable solution to support their missions while reducing their operating costs.
In the process of granting the APL status, Nokia Siemens Networks’ Mil NGN solution was tested by DISA’s Joint Interoperability Test Command organization, whose mission includes testing of DoD required functionalities, interoperability and security for communications systems. The test process is rigorous and comprehensive and typically takes months to complete the multiple functional areas of test and evaluation.
