Expands Chennai facility to meet local and global demand
India is one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world. With a remarkable GSM footprint, a rapidly growing 3G market and the expected rollout of TD-LTE, there is strong demand for telecom equipment. To help meet this demand, India’s largest international telecom infrastructure manufacturer, Nokia Siemens Networks, is expanding its Chennai (Oragadam) manufacturing facility from 35,000 to 55,000 square meters, and increasing the number of product lines to 33.
The expansion will significantly increase existing manufacturing capacity, allowing Nokia Siemens Networks to export approximately 37% of the facility’s production across the Asia Pacific. It will also enable the company to manufacture and distribute new multiradio and LTE products, among other equipment such as GSM and LTE-ready 3G base stations and its FlexiPacket radio. The manufacturing facility will offer energy-efficient equipment to reduce the carbon footprint of new network deployments. It has already started the production of innovative Flexi Multiradio Antenna System, which forms part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ Liquid Radio architecture1.

Since its inception in 2008, Nokia Siemens Networks has invested over USD 70 million2 (50 million Euros) in the Chennai facility that has rolled out more than 860,000 units to date. The facility has played an instrumental role in enabling Indian operators to roll out their 3G networks quickly3, and making Nokia Siemens Networks the leading international 3G mobile infrastructure and services vendor in India with approximately 30% market share4.
Nokia Siemens Networks has also been continuously investing in its Global Network Solutions Center (GNSC) in Chennai5, which now supports ten times more subscribers on behalf of operators around the world than in 2007 when it was launched.
The company appreciates the support extended to it by the Government of Tamil Nadu in creating Oragadam a globally viable manufacturing hub.
