Android press release cookie cutter

The other day, RCR sent Samsung a note asking for a statement on a story completely unrelated to the Google/Motorola merger.

Within minutes we had received the following knee-jerk response:

“We welcome today’s news, which demonstrates Google’s deep commitment to defending Android, its partners, and the ecosystem.”

We thanked Samsung but told them we had actually been looking for a comment on a completely different subject and moved on. But a niggling sensation remained in the back of our minds.

Throughout the day, we saw similarly creepy statements from other Android partners begin to emerge.

“I welcome Google’s commitment to defending Android and its partners,” said Sony Ericsson’s CEO, Bert Nordberg.

“We welcome the news of today’s acquisition, which demonstrates that Google is deeply committed to defending Android, its partners, and the entire ecosystem,” said HTC’s Peter Chou in a particularly original flourish.

“We welcome Google’s commitment to defending Android and its partners,” said LG’s CEO Jong-Seok Park.

Yes, welcome, indeed, Google overlord.

So how did all the Android handset makers manage to churn out such eerily similar statements? Oh, well, we don’t know, but it might have had something to do with this:
