Cloud-computing service providers should install their infrastructure close to their clients to mitigate risks, said Gartner VP Gene Phifer, adding that as cloud service providers deploy that strategy, they will want to have their infrastructure throughout the world, including Brazil. As such, “the Brazilian government should offer financial incentives to receive these firms,” said Phifer.
In Phifer’s opinion, the country offers good economy and political environments, which are attractive to cloud providers. However, it may demand investments for government, for instance increasing electricity capacity. “Some cloud providers are working to have their own power generation, so they might not need to use traditional ones.”
The economy’s growth is attractive to many vendors, but the government should establish incentives such as taxes breaks and improving the workforce to further entice providers to locate in the country. “Countries need to be business friendly and there are a lot of things they can do.”
