L.M. Ericsson (ERIC) won a four-year deal to be the sole vendor for Canadian operator EastLink Wireless’s core and radio access networks, using HSPA+ and next generation technologies. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Ericsson said it will deploy its multi-standard radio base station; RBS 6000, circuit switched and packet networks including Evolved Packet Core and Operation Support Systems (OSS), as well as provide professional services.
With 1,500 employees, EastLink offers telephony, broadband, television and other services to the residential, business and public sectors in Canada. The company operates in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia.
“We strive to provide our customers with the best communications and entertainment experience possible,” said Matthew MacLellan, president of EastLink Wireless. “With this network evolution, our customers will be able to work and communicate more reliably and faster than ever before.”
Ericsson said it invested more than $356 million in Canada last year and ranks as one of the top research-and-development investors in the country.
