Good news for workaholic TouchPad users today, as QuickOffice confirmed it had added editing capabilities to its WebOS app. The app, which came pre-installed on HP’s now discontinued TouchPad tablet has until now been read-only, meaning users can see, but not make changes to their documents.
The move will be welcomed by those wanting to make more productive use of their new device, adding a great deal of functionality, including the editing of Word and Excel files.
“Our scheduled update is being pushed out to HP TouchPads now, so users should see the update on their devices very soon,” said the QuickOffice team on its blog.
“We are incredibly pleased that our users are getting this promised update, as we have worked diligently to bring editing to the TouchPad and are glad our users will be able to benefit from the increased productivity and efficiency this version will provide,” the post continued.
The update is a smart move from QuickOffice, especially as the TouchPad’s fire sale ensured the app will now reach between 750,000 and two million new TouchPad users after the device sold out from every store – both online and offline – around the globe. Not bad for a week’s work.
WebOS’ future is of course still in flux, but with the major boost in buzz around the platform, developers would be wise to take QuickOffice’s lead in continuing to support the platform and its plethora of new users.
As for QuickOffice, it too hopes HP will keep it appraised of the operating system’s future, noting it was looking “forward to learning more about the future of webOS as HP informs the marketplace.”
We second that.
