Taiwan’s mobile market is set to experience explosive growth in mobile data revenues due to rapid adoption of smartphones, tablets and netbook devices, according to a new report from Pyramid Research.
The firm found that Taiwan could see a 15.9% compound annual growth rate in mobile data revenues through 2016 in its report “Taiwan: Smartphones and Tablets Drive the Mobile Market.”
Pyramid noted that Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile reported first quarter average revenue per user from smartphone customers ($43.10 for Chunghwa and $56.70 for Taiwan Mobile) that were more than twice of their overall ARPU levels.
“Given the impact smartphones can have on [average revenue per subscriber], it is no surprise that all of Taiwan’s operators have been focusing on promoting smartphone and other mobile computing devices in 2011,” explained Daniel Yu, associate manager of Asia-Pacific for Pyramid.
