iOS 5.0.1 no help for battery life, some iPhone users say

The iOS 5.0.1 patch that was supposed to fix problems with the iPhone 4S battery life received mixed reviews today. Some users are saying the battery life is no better than before, and others who have downloaded iOS 5.0.1 for older version of the iPhone say the new OS has actually decreased their battery life.

Shortly after the launch of the iPhone 4S, Apple began receiving complaints about battery life. Some users of older iPhones who upgraded to iOS 5.0 also said they were getting less battery life after upgrading.

The 5.0.1 upgrade is available for all iPhones and iPads 3GS or above. Third- and fourth-generation iPods can also download the upgrade. Apple says the upgrade will also fix issues with the iCloud document storage system and allow Siri to speak with an Australian accent. It also adds multitasking features for the original iPad.

The iTunes download of iOS 5.0.1 is 790 MB, and should take less than 15 minutes to download.
