Intel teams up with MasterCard for safer online payments

Safer online shopping saves money for vendors, shoppers and financial services companies. That’s why MasterCard Inc. is joining forces with Intel Corp. in an effort to make online shopping safer and easier

The two companies will use near-field communication to enable users of Intel’s Ultrabook laptop to make online payments by tapping the PC with their smartphone, or with a PayPass-enabled card. The tap will generate a code which will trigger the Ultrabook’s hardware to initiate and complete a transaction with the vendor site. MasterCard’s chief emerging payments officer, Ed McLaughlin, discussed the new initiative in a video interview.
