Wavion, a global provider of Wi-Fi solutions, and the integrated solutions company Leadcom have OK’d a cooperation agreement for Africa and Latin America. Wavion expects to more than double its sales in the region in 2012, coming from both operators (carriers and ISPs) and government projects such as education.
“Latin America and Africa are both important, and we have great expectations,” Wavion Networks marketing director Lior Mishan told RCR Wireless News.
Latin America is an important region of sales for Wavion, accounting for more than 20% of its sales in the past couple of years. The company bases its expectation in the growing demand for Wi-Fi in these markets, “since telecom operators are asking for Wi-Fi solutions for applications, such as wireless broadband access, hot spots and cellular offloading,” Mishan said.
Wavion is based in Yoqne’am, Israel, and has offices in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, India, China, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Africa and Russia. Wavion has a network of distributers and system integrators. Leadcom is another new system integrator partner and has expertise in local presence in these emerging markets.
Mishan could not disclose specific operators’ names, but Wavion said that the main carrier applications have included cellular data offloading, hot zones and rural connectivity.
