A Samsung Galaxy S II owned by a 25-year-old protester is keeping tens of thousands of viewers around the world updated on Occupy Wall Street today, as media with traditional video cameras find it difficult to navigate the crowds and the cops. Tim Pool is a member of The Other 99, a group that has been using Ustream to livestream video from downtown Manhattan.
Today is the two-month anniversary for Occupy Wall Street, and this morning traders who work at the New York Stock Exchange had to fight their way through heavy crowds of protesters intent on delaying or preventing the opening bell. Trading began on schedule on 9:30 am EST, but protesters have other events planned today. Some reportedly plan to commandeer the subway lines and tell their stories through onboard microphones. Later today, protesters and labor union members plan to march into downtown Foley Square. Energy is high after New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg instructed police to evict the people camping at Zuccotti Park, the movement’s home base, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
