OnLive brings more games to mobile devices

Just in time for the holidays, OnLive has a new application to stream popular games to the tablets and smartphones that will be waiting under millions of Christmas trees. Gamers already use OnLive’s technology to download games directly to their computers, but now tablets are becoming the platform of choice for many, and the company wants its games to be part of this fast-growing market.

Silicon Valley’s privately-held OnLive says that today’s mobile devices do not have the processing power to play its high-end games, but that by delivering the games from the cloud, it can bring users all the functionality they experience on their computers. Because the games are streamed and not downloaded, they do not take up storage space on mobile devices.

OnLive has also adapted 25 popular games for touch-screen control, including “L.A. Noire” from Rockstar Games.
Users will be able to start a game on one device and finish it on another, thanks to OnLive’s cross-platform capability. Games can be played over 4G LTE as well as Wi-Fi. OnLive’s free app is available for download from the Android Market.
