LTE-enabled devices surge six-fold to 269

The Global Mobile Suppliers Association reported that there are now 269 LTE-enabled user devices, manufactured by 57 companies in the market. This is a six-fold jump in six months and is a 36% increase in the number of devices identified compared with last October. The GSA also noted that the number of LTE-enabled tablets has doubled in the past six months.

Earlier this year, the GSA reported that 49 operators had launched LTE networks. The association considers user devices for both FDD and TDD modes, their form factors, operating frequencies, and support for fallback technologies when outside LTE coverage areas, such as HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSPA+, EV-DO, or TD-SCDMA.

According to GSA’s numbers there are 31 modules, 18 tablets, 12 notebooks, two wireless modems, one femtocell, 48 smartphones, 101 routers and 56 dongles on the market. Of them, 159 LTE devices incorporate HSPA technology, including 54 devices which support 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ capability. 87 LTE devices can also operate on CDMA2000 1x EV-DO networks.

The widest range of devices – 142 – are available for 700 MHz frequency bands, followed by the 2600 MHz band (65 devices), 800 MHz band (52 devices), 1.7/2.1 GHz band (51 devices), 1800 MHz band (50 devices), and 800/1800/2600 MHz bands with 43 devices.
