InterDigital sees possible buyers for its patents

InterDigital (NASDAQ: IDCC) has seen its stock price slump since it confirmed that it was calling off its patent sale 8 days ago. But the company says there should be more news soon, now that it has decided to sell its patent portfolio in pieces. InterDigital Executive VP Janet Point says the company could not find a buyer for its entire patent estate, but that several potential bidders wanted to buy a subset of the portfolio. InterDigital is continuing to talk to those parties, Point said, and has also had some new inquiries since it decided that the patents did not have to be sold together.

“We will keep a substantial portion of our core wireless patent inventory that relates to wireless standards, like 3G and 4G,” Point told RCR Wireless News. “But we will parse the portfolio, and sell ancillary patents,” she said.

InterDigital is recognized as a leader in the development of wireless technologies and standards. The company makes money by licensing its patented inventions and technologies.
