On the same day that the government reported strong job growth in February, Verizon Wireless is reportedly set to close three U.S.-based call centers in a move that could impact 3,175 jobs.
According to published reports, Verizon Wireless will be shuttering call centers in Bellevue, Wash.; Houston; and Southfield, Mich., that will impact approximately 2,600 employees. The carrier has said it would encourage those employees impacted to apply for positions at other call centers and would also provide relocation funds to help those that move to new locations. Employees not looking to move would also be offered severance packages.
The carrier is also consolidating a call center in Folsom, Calif., with a center in Rancho Cordova, Calif., in a move expected to impact 325 employees; and consolidating its Internet Response-Chat Team into a pair of locations in Ohio and Illinois that is expected to impact 250 employees.
Verizon Wireless recently garnered top marks in a customer care survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates, with the firm noting the carrier “performs particularly well in phone contacts that originate in the ARS channel and are then transferred to a live service representative, and in phone calls made directly to a CSR.”
