Entel to invest $3B through 2014

Chilean Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Entel) unveiled plans to invest $3 billion between 2012 and 2014 to focus on mobile technology. The plan comprises investments of $900 million in 2012 and includes the purchase of handsets for clients with contracts. The announcement was made at a shareholders’ meeting yesterday.

Entel will focus on high-growth areas within the telecommunications sector, such as mobile broadband. In addition, the company will provide integral offerings in the enterprise segment, noted Antonio Buchi, Entel’s chief executive officer.

During the first half of 2012, Entel said it will begin to offer user-friendly services for the residential segment by providing mobile broadband and satellite TV as part of a project that will focus on areas that currently lack these types of services.

After the consolidation of Entel’s new management and organizational structure, Entel’s corporate vice president, Richard Buchi, resigned from his position and was elected as a director of the company at the shareholders’ meeting.
