TurboTax maker Intuit to buy Demandforce for $423M

Small and medium businesses are learning to profit from mobile marketing, and software giant Intuit (INTU) is taking note. Today the maker of QuickBooks and TurboTax said it will acquire Demandforce, a software company that helps small businesses with mobile and social media tools, as well as email campaigns. Intuit is paying $423.5 million in cash for the San Francisco company.

Intuit says Demandforce has a strong presence in the healthcare, automotive and beauty industries. “Demandforce sits at the sweet spot of Intuit’s small and medium business customer base,” said the head of Intuit’s small business group. Demandforce’s founder, Rick Berry, will run his company as a division of Intuit’s small business group.

Timely by Demandforce is one of the company’s key social media tools. It gives users an interface in which to type Facebook and Twitter updates, then finds the most opportune time to post those updates in an effort to maximize views and responses.
