The Cup Executive Group has asked Brazil’s state and city governments to negotiate agreements by December with telecom companies to manage the proliferation of cellular towers in anticipation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The topic is controversial because there is an array of legal issues involved. In Sao Paulo, for example, about 2,000 antennas are being questioned by prosecutors. Meanwhile, the Brazilian state company Telebras will receive $103.83 million (R$ 200.17 million) to deploy the infrastructure needed to supply metropolitan fiber optic networks, satellite links, and radio.
