The rumor of WiMAX’s demise may have been a bit premature, at least to the folks at NewNet. The firm, which picked up Nokia Siemen’s WiMAX business last year, a unit that was previously acquired from Motorola Solutions for $1.2 billion, said it plans to continue supporting the technology as well as is looking for new carriers interested in deploying the mobile broadband standard.
Citing a well developed ecosystem and a strong support system, NewNet executives at the recent CTIA event in New Orleans were keen to dispel the notion that all future mobile broadband would revolve around LTE. That’s not to say that the company is not aware of the potential for LTE, adding that the company is also in the position to support that technology should its customers’ needs change.
