TIM Brazil, Oi dominate Brazilian market in April

Telecom Italia’s TIM Brazil led the Brazilian wireless market for growth in April with 808,000 net additions, according to Brazilian telecom agency Anatel. Rival Oi posted the second strongest growth for the month with 507,000 new lines, followed by Telefonica’s Vivo (481,000 net additions) and America Movil’s Claro (343,000 net additions).

TIM, whose CEO recently resigned after a probe involving fraudulent SIM card use, accounted for the biggest share of net additions scoring 37.4% of the total new net adds during the month.

The investment firm Ativa Corretora said the results were positive for both Oi and TIM, noting that TIM remained the leader in net adds and that it gained market share. Ativa Corretora also said that while Oi showed a weak evolution in its client-base over the past months, it came back with  healthy growth. Regarding Vivo, Ativa Corretora noted the company has showed growth, but it was not enough to keep its market share.
