Just a few weeks after taking Apple’s title as the world’s top seller of smartphones, Samsung has scored another victory over Cupertino: The Galaxy S III is emerging as the most pre-ordered smartphone in history, with reported advance orders of 9 million units, more than double those of the iPhone 4S.. In the United Kingdom, press reports say that Vodafone’s Galaxy III pre-orders are breaking records and that the carrier expects a very busy launch day on May 29.
Meanwhile the latest research on mobile phone purchasing trends shows that almost three-quarters of U.S. mobile phone purchased made this month were smartphones. iGR Research found that consumers paid an average price of $114 for smartphones in May, with iPhones commanding an average purchase price of $136, and Android phones fetching $125 on average.
