Leadership changes at Yahoo, VMware, SAP, Red Hat

Changes in the leadership at big tech companies were announced this week. Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) appointed former Google executive Marissa Mayer as president, CEO and member of the board of directors. Yahoo noted that the company’s decision to hire a “leading consumer internet executive” signals its renewed focus on product innovation to drive user experience and advertising revenue.

Mayer is Yahoo’s fifth CEO in five years, and turning around company is among her challenges. “I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo, one of the Internet’s premier destinations for more than 700 million users,” Mayer said. “I look forward to working with the company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world.”Leadership changes at Yahoo, VMware, SAP, Red Hat

VMware, an EMC company, announced that Pat Gelsinger, currently president and COO of EMC Information Infrastructure Products, will succeed Paul Martiz as CEO of VMware. The change will be effective Sept. 1.

Martiz will remain on the VMware board of directors and will be taking on a new role as technology strategist at EMC.

In Latin America, SAP announced changes in its regional organizational structure. Cesar Luis Verdi, who has been president of SAP Brazil in April 2009, will become the SVP of sales innovation for Latin America. Dzodan Diego, the current president of SAP Mexico and Central America, will take on the post of president of SAP Brazil.

Gonzalo Benedit was appointed president of SAP Mexico and Central America. Benedit is SAP’s former SVP of services for Latin America.

The company also announced that Felix Feddersen, who was COO for Latin America, will be SVP of services in the region. Thack Brown will be the COO for Latin America, while maintaining his current position of CFO for the region on an interim basis.

In Brazil, Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) named Paulo Bonucci as its new country manager. He assumes the leadership of Red Hat in Brazil after nine years at Unisys, seven of which he served as president of the company in Brazil.
