Peru’s LTE auction expected in first half of 2013

The auction that will allow the deployment of LTE telecom networks in Peru is expected to take place during the first half of next year. The Agency for Promotion of Private Investment (ProInversión) will grant the allocation of two blocks in the bands of 1,710 to 1,770 MHz and 2,110 to 2,170 MHz, also known as the AWS band.

The process is still in its early stages.

Earlier in August, ProInversión conducted auctions for the 899-915MHz and 944-960MHz bands (Lima and Callao) and the 902-915MHz and 947-960MHz bands to provide telecom services for the rest of the country.

The winner was Vietnam’s largest mobile operator, Viettel, which is set to launch operations in Peru next year. The carrier will pay a total of U.S.$48.43 million to secure four bands in the 900 MHz spectrum.
