Reality Check: There is no way back

Editor’s NoteWelcome to our weekly Reality Check column. We’ve gathered a group of visionaries and veterans in the mobile industry to give their insights into the marketplace.

It is known that there is an issue related to the telecommunication infrastructure that supports mobility in the world. We can take Brazil as an example. There are in this country thousands of users, but Brazil’s telecommunication infrastructure is not enough to support them.

Nowadays Brazilian people have lots of availability, performance and capacity problems related to the telecom infrastructure. Imagine how this environment is going to be during the World Cup 2014 and Olympcs 2016.

There is no way back when thinking about mobility. All of us want mobility. We want availability, performance, mobility and security. We want access to information with which to make decisions.

Mobility is composed of: endpoints, telecommunications infrastructure and data infrastructure (without talking about the management side of mobility). Thinking about endpoints, we have many types, brands and features according to our needs and desires.

What about the telecommunications infrastructure? Can we have our information “everywhere” using mobility? Can we expect to have our information independent at the place we are, or are we still waiting for more?

Sure. Sure. We still have telecommunications issues. How can we solve that? That is the question that must be answered in order to have a mobility world according to our present and future needs. I suggest that must be made a capacity planning in Brasil and after that a technical evaluation in order to compose for each place the ideal telecommunications infrastructure. As I said before, “There is no way back when thinking about mobility.”
