Chile’s Entel posts 15% increase in revenues driven by mobile, data, network rental

Chilean telecommunications group Entel‘s revenue rose 15% in the third quarter of 2012, principally driven by mobile,  data (including IT) and network rental services. Entel’s total mobile customers also increased to 9,890,178 in the third quarter of 2012,  a 15% expansion compared to the third quarter of 2011.

The company reported revenues of U.S.$745.72 million (Ch$353.3 billion) and an increase of 8% in EBTIDA to U.S.$303.94 million (Ch$144.0 billion). Net income for the the third quarter totaled U.S.$102.37 million (Ch$48.5 billion), a 5% expansion over the same period of 2011. However, total operating income decreased 2% from 3Q11 to U.S.$142.05 million (Ch$61.3 billion).

The Chilean economy continued to grow at a healthy rate, driven by domestic consumption, and Entel showed a corresponding 16% growth in mobile services boosted by service revenue, inline with its consistent average customer base expansion ( +17%) combined with a reduction in blended ARPU (-2%).

Entel’s post-paid subscriber base (voice and MBB) grew 12%, representing 31% of the total customer base, while prepaid (voice and MBB) increased 17%. Mobile broadband subscribers (MBB) reached 1,074,255 (including M2M data cards), growing 21% compared to 3Q11.

The exchange rate at September 30, 2012 was Ch$473.77/U.S.$ 1.  Average inflation from 3Q11 to 3Q12 was 2.6%.
