Earlier this year, Telefónica announced the launch of a regional cloud hosting service targeting the Latin American corporate segment, including large companies and government. Called “Virtual Hosting 2.0,” the service is supported by VCE’s VBlock infrastructure and provided through five interconnected data centers, located in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru.
Instant Servers is based on Joyent’s cloud infrastructure with data centers located in the U.K. and Spain. Telefónica plans to deploy additional data centers in Europe and Latin America.
Carlos Morales, Telefónica Digital’s cloud and M2M director, said that with the Instant Servers launch, the telecom operator seeks to provide thousands of businesses with a cloud services platform that is easily scalable with low latency and is totally trustworthy, enabling businesses to rapidly respond not only to their own needs but also to customer expectations.
Through this offering, customers will be able to acquire, manage, monitor and control their virtual servers via a website.
Instant Servers is the first Telefónica trademark product to be sold directly to companies over the Internet on a worldwide basis.
