With the Consumer Electronics Show underway in Las Vegas (CES 2013–check out all pieces), vendors and carriers are hurrying to announce their news for 2013. RCR Wireless News has gathered some of the biggest news released at the trade show on Monday and Tuesday:
>> Intel’s highlights from CES included its releases focused on home and mobile products, and the company’s strategy to reach out emerging markets. Intel unveiled its plans for a new smartphone platform for emerging markets, details on a forthcoming 22nm quad-core SoC for tablets and more personal and intuitive Ultrabook™ devices. Intel also announced a collaboration with Comcast to support XFINITY TV viewing on Intel-based home devices.
Among other releases, Intel said its Media SDK 2013 now supports fixed-function hardware acceleration for video on Intel Atom processor-based tablets with the Microsoft Windows operating system including video playback, editing and conversion.
Lenovo’s IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC
>> Lenovo released its first tablet named IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC, a new lineup of consumer and business Windows 8 touch-optimized devices, and two new additions to its family of convertible laptop-tablet devices: the ThinkPad Helix for business professionals featuring a “rip and flip” design, and a stronger, more productive IdeaPad Yoga 11S, the first multimode mini Ultrabook™ equipped with powerful Intel processors and featuring Windows 8.
>>> ST-Ericsson announced an LTE smartphone platform named NovaThor(TM) L8580 ModAp. It comes with a full connectivity suite and features an eQuad(TM)-powered application processor running at up to 2.5 GHz. The company said it will be available to sample in the first quarter of 2013. Note: In December, STMicroelectronics (STM) announced it was leaving the venture after a transition period, although it will “continue to support ST-Ericsson as their supply-chain partner, advanced process-technology partner and application-processor IP provider.”
>>> Samsung Electronics unveiled its Curved OLED TV, a curved panel aimed at creating a panorama effect not possible with flat-panel TVs.

>>> Pioneer Electronics used CES to showcase its continued embrace of the smartphone connected lifestyle with a broad range of car, home and DJ electronic products. The company also highlighted the interoperability of its smartphone integrated products.
>>> LG Electronics showcased features of its smart home service, combining media sharing technologies of SmartShare with the integrated home appliance management capabilities of SmartControl, enabling the user to take complete command of their smart home environment.
