Chile sets new standards for telecom services

Chilean watchdog Subtel has set new service quality indicators for Internet, mobile and fixed telephony services that will be used starting this year. According to the minister of transport and telecommunications, Pedro Pablo Errazuriz, the new indicators will replace the national average as the current required performance standard.

Subtel reported that it has noticed an improvement in mobile phone service when making calls and in fixed Internet speeds to access sites, compared with the first half of 2012. Still, users’ satisfaction with these services shows a slight downward trend.

In terms of claims against telecom companies, GTD Manquehue is ranked as the company with fewest claims related to fixed telephony and Internet access. For these same two services, Movistar had the most claims in the period. In mobile telephony, Entel had the fewest claims, while Movistar had the most. In the mobile Internet category, Movistar had the lowest rate of complaints, and Claro the highest among users of this service.

Subtel’s new indicators include claims against telecommunications companies and network behavior as well as user satisfaction for Internet and telephony services, both fixed and mobile.

While presenting the indicators, Errazuriz noted that telecom companies must differentiate themselves in the market not only through offering competitive prices and good service quality but also by seeking higher user satisfaction.
