Digicel Group has chosen eVolution Networks to provide a smart energy solution (SES) across its network in Jamaica. Digicel aims to slash energy consumption on the cellular tower (base station) level, enabling cost savings by deactivating base stations during times of low traffic.
According to the companies, SES is expected to save Digicel up to U.S.$ 1.4 million annually in energy costs, realizing a 23% reduction in RAN (radio access network) energy costs.
Digicel began testing SES in early 2012, and in October, it fully commissioned SES network-wide.
The amount of the agreement was not released.
