DAS has had to take a back seat this week, as small cells appear to be stealing the infrastructure show at Mobile World Congress, with a fresh crop of product announcements from both providers and component makers as well a new report calling for an 8-fold increase in the number of small cells by 2016. DAS providers are taking the hype in stride and reminding show participants that distributed antenna systems often work in tandem with small cells.
DAS provider TE Connectivity says it is incorporating both small cells and Wi-Fi into its in-building solutions. This week the company also unveiled a new solution that it says will save space in the base station by taking baseband into the heading unit, thereby eliminating the need to convert to RF.
