MWC 2013: Boingo Wireless sees demand for hybrid solutions (Video)

Boingo Wireless means airport Wi-Fi to most people, but the company is also a provider of distributed antenna installations, and it says the four carriers it works with are asking for more DAS. “We’re being more aggressive in pursuing DAS opportunities and finding places where both DAS and Wi-Fi work together, or where we can deliver DAS alone,” said Boingo’s Christian Gunning at Mobile World Congress.

“We’re seeing more of the bids that historically were parsed out either as a DAS bid or a Wi-Fi bid … being combined into a joint solution. And I think part of it is that people are starting to recognize that a neutral host option is perhaps their best bet to get better participation by the carriers, but also that there are some economies of scale in deploying both networks simultaneously.”
