MWC 2013: SAP moves to secure content management

With mobility a top priority for enterprises, software firm SAP has made the move into securing content management. The company launched its SAP Mobile Documents solution at this week’s Mobile World Congress event(MWC – check all pieces), noting the solution is designed to meet heavy demand for simple, highly secure file synchronization and sharing in the enterprise.

While explaining its strategy, SAP senior director for mobile solutions management Bryan Whitmarsh, told RCR Wireless News that the company has invested in content management, citing how SAP is targeting the future of enterprise mobility.

“In the core it is mobile device management, a segment that we have been in for about 15 years. A layer above it is mobile application management and we are an application company. There’ll be an explosion of apps, as you go out further you increase reach and experience,” Whitmarsh said. “The next layer is secure content management and then the next one is the layer of the ‘Internet of things.’”

Whitmarsh noted there is a need in the market for that kind of solution. “There was a space to be filled.”

SAP’s enterprise mobility management platform for securing mobile devices, apps and content is a standalone solution, resulting from internal development based on technologies designed and developed within the company. Other layers of the solution, including MDM and mobile application management, are based on its Afaria enterprise mobility management solution.
