Carrier Wrap: LTE continues U.S. expansion; Orange shuffles execs

AT&T Mobility
AT&T Mobility unveiled business focused data plans offering shareable buckets of up to 50 gigabytes of data for $500 per month. The buckets include unlimited calling and messaging services, with customers paying $30 per month for each smartphone accessing he bucket.

AT&T Mobility said this week that it expanded or launched its LTE service to Mobile, Ala.; Waterbury and Meriden, Conn.; Dyersburg, Tenn.; Sebring, Fla.; and Athens and Bowling Green, Ohio.

AT&T Mobility’s parent company launched a no-contract wireless home phone service, dubbed AT&T Wireless, that will provide unlimited nationwide calling beginning at $10 per month.

Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless this week said it expanded LTE service in portions of Montana, including the Great Falls metropolitan area, Great Falls College MSU, University of Great Falls, Holiday Village Mall, Malmstrom Air Force Base and the C.M Russell Museum. In addition, coverage was expanded along I-15 to include the Great Falls International Airport and along Hwy 87 to include Black Eagle.

Sprint Nextel
Sprint Nextel launched a customer branded phone program designed to allow mobile virtual network operators to custom-brand white-label smartphones running the Android operating system.

Sprint Nextel announced a wholesale agreement with Mitel to deliver cloud solutions for resellers serving small- and mid-sized businesses.

Sprint Nextel said it has added the Sonim XP Strike IS device to its Direct Connect portfolio, providing an “intrinsically safe” offering for businesses using electrical equipment in gaseous and potentially explosive atmospheres.

T-Mobile USA
T-Mobile USA announced the composition of the board of directors heading up its nearly-complete acquisition of MetroPCS. The board will have 11 members and be headed by Timotheus Höttges, currently deputy CEO and CFO of T-Mobile USA’s parent company Deutsche Telekom.

China Unicom
China Unicom released monthly operational results for February, showing it added nearly 3.2 million new customers during the month.

Bharti Airtel
India’s Bharti Airtel was issued a summons to appear in front of a court regarding improprieties connected to a spectrum allocation from 2003.

America Movil
America Movil said it has proposed a dividend payment as well as to increase the amount of money set aside to repurchase shares.

Orange
France Telecom’s Orange operation has shuffled its management team in a move it says will improve efficiency.

Orange said it was accelerating its cloud strategy in light of a 33% increase in business in 2012, with plans to top $640 million in revenues by 2015.

Telenor
Telenor reported that it has launched HD Voice capabilities in Norway, offering the service at no charge to current customers. However, to tap into the capabilities, customers must have a phone that is HD Voice ready, as must the other person in the phone call.
