The HTC One was one of the hottest new smartphones to come out of Mobile World Congress, and now it looks like AT&T will be the exclusive U.S. carrier of the 64GB version, at least initially. The carrier shared the news on YouTube over the weekend.
The HTC One is an LTE-ready, Android 4.2 phone with a 4.7-inch, full HD touchscreen. It features front-facing audio speakers, a dedicated amplifier and HTC Sense, which adjusts call volume based on background noise. HTC Sense also accesses the cloud to show users what’s on TV and let them control many set-top boxes with their smartphones.
HTC’s new BlinkFeed app debuts on the HTC One; it integrates updates from the user’s selected news feeds and social networks. BlinkFeed is meant to be the phone’s homescreen, but users who prefer a different homescreen can customize their own.
The Taiwanese smartphone maker says the phone’s new ultrapixel camera lets in 300% more light than other smartphone cameras, and it features an app that automatically creates a 30 second highlight video from sets of still photos taken together. With a couple of clicks the video can be shared across social media sites.
The HTC One is expected to hit carriers’ retail stores in the U.S. this month. The 32 GB version will be available through Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA as well as AT&T. None of the carriers have announced pricing for the phone as of yet.
Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 will probably be HTC’s biggest competitor, and it’s also coming to AT&T this month. Pre-orders start April 16, and AT&T will price the phone at $250 with a two-year contract.
