National Technical Systems reports record quarter; Ixia has ‘solid start’

National Technical Systems, which provides testing and engineering services to the telecom industry among others, had a record quarter of growth. Revenues were up almost 19% to $184.5 million for its fiscal 2013.

Revenues for its fiscal fourth quarter jumped almost 9% year-over-year, to $43.8 million.

William McGinnis, NTS’ president and CEO, noted that the company had record results in spite of being affected by delayed orders during the most recent quarter due to the federal government’s sequester.

“We saw this slowdown continue as we began fiscal year 2014; however, quote activity and other leading indicators remain fairly strong and we believe the slowdown may be temporary and may create an increasing level of pent up demand for our services,” McGinnis said.

Net income for NTS for its full fiscal year was $4.4 million, a substantial increase from the $491,000 net income in the previous year, which included a $2.2 million impairment loss and a $381,000 loss from discontinued operations.

–Testing and monitoring company Ixia also saw strong growth for the first quarter of 2013, with revenues up to $122.8 million compared to $86.7 million in the first quarter of 2012. Net income on a GAAP basis was $8.1 million, up from $5.2 million for the same period last year.

“The first quarter was a solid start to the year, with good momentum from our mobility and data center solutions,” said Vic Alston, Ixia’s president and CEO. “Service provider revenue was at a record level in the quarter as our customers continue to rollout their next generation mobile networks. Revenue from Anue and BreakingPoint grew on a combined basis over 70% from the first quarter of last year.”

Alston said that the fundamental drivers for Ixia’s business are strong with customers “rapidly moving to mobile networks, virtual data centers and hybrid cloud environments to deliver next generation applications. We believe these market trends will continue to drive demand for Ixia’s mobility, security and data center solutions.”
