Corning’s new innovative platform is set to deliver the Optical Network Evolution (ONE™) that will address the next wave of wireless demand
CORNING, N.Y. – Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today unveiled the first all-optical, converged in-building wireless solution to satisfy the increasing demand from enterprises, hotels, convention centers and arenas for high-speed, high-capacity wireless hubs with virtually unlimited bandwidth.
Built on a high-performance optical backbone, the Corning ONE™ Wireless Platform is designed to handle core cellular technologies and enable multiple applications, including wireless LAN, public safety and location-based services. In addition, Corning ONE Wireless Platform offers Wi-Fi support through its built-in Gigabit Ethernet and Power over Ethernet capability.
Corning ONE Wireless Platform leverages fiber-to-the-edge technology to deliver more bandwidth, more operators, more services and more applications via fiber links to an integrated, modular single-input, single-output/multiple-input, multiple-output (SISO/MIMO) antenna. The platform’s remote antenna units offer upgradable expansion modules for MIMO in a single antenna, allowing for future additions of active spectrum.
With the proliferation of smartphones and other devices, current networks simply cannot keep pace with the demand. The need exists for a new generation of easily installed, reliable and environmentally sensitive fiber optic networking technology that can meet the demands of today’s users and anticipate those of the evolving mobile era.
“The wireless needs of the modern organization – be they a large enterprise, an educational institution or a hotel and convention center – are changing faster than traditional technology approaches can manage,” said Mike O’Day, vice president, Wireless Networks with Corning. “The ONE Wireless Platform combines all of these distinct connectivity needs into a single, unified infrastructure. The platform not only meets the demands of today, but also includes a modular design that provides the scalability required to support future services and applications.”
Station Casinos, a premier gaming, hotel and entertainment company operating in and around the Las Vegas area, turned to Corning and its new ONE Wireless Platform to provide the best possible wireless service to staff and guests.
As the owner and operator of nine major hotel/casinos, including premier venues like Red Rock Resort and Green Valley Ranch resort, Stations’ technicians understand the challenge of providing mass demand cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. But, they needed more. CIO Abe Hong called on Corning and the distribution channel, Anixter, for a leg up in the hyper-competitive gaming and hospitality market.
“The Corning ONE™ Wireless Platform offers virtually unlimited bandwidth on which to deliver cellular and Wi-Fi right to the access point.” Hong said. “The converged, modular and all-optical infrastructure will give us the capabilities we need today with the flexibility to expand in the future. Moreover, my team saw significant savings on equipment, space and cabling when we extended our Wi-Fi upgrade over the platform. We are excited to be rolling out this new platform to Red Rocks and other properties to provide our guests and staff unparalleled wireless services.”
With the launch of the Corning ONE Wireless Platform, Corning’s distributed antenna system portfolio expands beyond traditional DAS, supporting nearly every connectivity need from lower power, cost-effective deployments inherent in small office buildings, to the massive bandwidth and coverage needs of public venues such as convention centers and stadiums. The Corning ONE Wireless Platform meets the demands of today and the future by providing optical bandwidth to the edge of the network.
