LAS VEGAS – The rush to serve international travelers with a range of wireless services at reasonable prices continued this week as Truphone said it has begun offering share international mobile service plans that include voice, messaging and data services.
The company said the plans build upon its legacy services that provide users with local numbers in multiple countries using a single SIM card. Calls placed and received in what it calls “Truphone Zone” are treated as local calls. “These additional numbers are always on, and always routed automatically – so users have a consistent and unified calling experience,” the company notes.
Those zones currently include the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, with plans to add coverage to Germany, Poland and Spain later this year.
Rate plans begin at $500 per month plus $35 per user and include 5,000 voice minutes, 5,000 text messages and 1 gigabyte of data transmission. Those plans top out at $2,600 per month plus $35 per user for 40,000 voice minutes, 40,000 text messages and 10 GB of data.
T-Mobile US also looked to tackle the international roaming issue this week, announcing that beginning May 29 it will offer flat-rate data roaming across 119 destinations beginning at $25 per month for 150 megabytes, up to $120 per month for 1 gigabyte. For those traveling to Canada and/or Mexico, T-Mobile US offers 150 Mb for $15 per month and 1 GB for $70 per month. The plans are targeted at the carrier’s enterprise customers
