T-Mobile US set to get BlackBerry Q10 June 5

BlackBerry’s Q10 smartphone is set to hit T-Mobile US stores early next month. The Q10 runs the new BB10 operating system, and includes both a touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard with keys 30% larger than those on the BlackBerry Bold.

Today’s Mobile Minute:

  • It looks like T-Mobile U.S. may be the first U.S. carrier to stock BlackBerry’s new Q10 smartphone — the carrier says it will have the device in stores by June 5. The Q10 is the cousin to BlackBerry’s new Z10 smartphone — the Q stands for QWERTY as in QWERTY keyboard. The Q10 also sports a touchscreen, so for keyboard lovers it could be the best of both worlds. AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel are also set to get the Q10 soon.
  • Of course one problem for BlackBerry users is the shortage of apps. There are about 100,000 apps available for BlackBerry, compared to roughly 800,000 for Android and iOS. Android has caught up with iOS as far as the number of apps, but when it comes to app sales iOS is still in the lead. Apple’s app store makes an estimated $2.50 for ever dollar the Google Play store makes.
  • But Google is gaining. The latest data from Distimo shows the Android app store’s market share increasing by 8 percentage points just since November.
