Analyst Angle: Consumers predicted iPhone’s strong Q3

Did Samsung’s Galaxy S4 boost sales of the iPhone during Apple’s third quarter? According to Argus Insights, analysis of consumer reviews on social media sites showed that many people who were waiting for the S4 were disappointed by the actual product, and decided to buy an iPhone 5 instead.

Apple said yesterday that revenue and sales came in slightly above Wall Street’s expectations for the quarter ending in June. The company earned $6.9 billion (versus $8.8 billion in the year-ago quarter), on revenue of $35.3 billion. Strong iPhone sales were the biggest contributor to Apple’s results; sales of iPads and Macs were both down versus the year-ago quarter. Analyst John Feland of Argus shares his take on the results below:
